When you hear the word Metro Manila one of the things you will think about is traffic. There's no doubt that the busy streets and highways of the cities are always on heavy traffic.
With the traffic jam every day, a lot of commuters are very grateful to the LRTs and MRT. These trains really make commuting faster and cheaper. With the fare hike every now and then, it's good news that the train fare has remained the same for quite a few years now. Regular passengers are so used to crowded trains that they don't mind standing up for about 30 minutes or more. All that matters is that these trains offer a faster travel time.
In any case, there's really no guarantee that the LRTs and the MRT will always save the day for the commuters.
What if, you experience being late on an appointment because of these trains?
This morning, I had to wait for 31 minutes for the LRT train to arrive in Tayuman station. Apparently, there was a technical problem which caused the delay. Therefore, a lot of passengers were left with no choice but to wait until the problem is resolved. I waited 35 minutes for me to get into the third train because the first two were so crowded that I had to let go.
Whether it was just bad luck or what, didn't really matter to me. I was patient enough to wait that long because I know that if ever I missed my appointment earlier, I am not going to lose anything. However, a lot of those people who rely on the services of LRTs and MRT have important things to attend to. They take that ride to make sure that they will not be late for their schedules. So, if there will be technical problems often, then a lot of people will be in trouble. Besides, they cannot tell their bosses, teachers, or dates that they're sorry because there's a technical problem if they come in late.
What happened earlier made me think. Is there any way that there will be additional MRTs and LRTs in the future? Or is there a possiblity that the traffic in the metro will be better? I guess, we can only hope for now. For the meantime, what we can just do is pray that these trains will not have much technical problems. Better yet, we can just leave our homes an hour earlier than we are used to so that we havegood chances of making it on time. After all, Filipino time should be the exact time.
